John Fletcher Sr. was a child of William Fletcher III
13 and (first name uncertain) McIntosh (see footnotes 8 and 9).

John, like his father, was a Revolutionary War Soldier. He enlisted under Capt. James Griggs and served under Lt. Col. Thomas Davis, Col. Hugh Giles, and Gen. Francis Marion until 1782.

John lived in Georgia, going from Effingham Co., to Bulloch Co., finally settling in Telfair Co., as his father did. John was a representative from Telfair Co. (1816-1817).

Around 1785, John married Susanna Mizell (May 24, 1763, North Carolina – Oct. 29, 1834, Gadsden Co., Fla.). 14 They had twelve children. 15

Zachariah Fletcher was the sixth of twelve children of John Fletcher Sr. and Susanna Mizell. 19

On Feb. 22, 1822 in Lowndes Co., Ga., Zachariah married Mary Lofton (Dec. 27, 1807 – Oct. 3, 1871, Lowndes Co., Ga.). They had 14 children.

Dekalb Calvin Fletcher was the eleventh of fourteen children of Zachariah Fletcher and Mary Lofton.

On June 14, 1861, Dekalb enlisted in the Confederate States of America Army in Valdosta, Ga. He was a Civil War Soldier in the 12th Georgia Infantry, Company 1. His service records show that he was wounded several times:
1. McDowell, Va. May 8, 1862.
2. Chancellorsville, Va. May 2, 1863.
3. The Wilderness, Va. May 5, 1864.

On Dec. 11, 1864, in Lowndes Co., Ga., Dekalb married Harriett Ellen Howell (June 4, 1839 – April 6, 1923). , They are Burton’s great-great grandparents. They had six children.
