Every industry has its trends, that is, the direction in which it is moving. The monument builders or memorial industry is no different. A few of the trends are outlined below.
Expenditures: We have found families willing to spend increasing sums to memorialize their loved ones.
Granite Colors: Increasingly, consumers are demanding colors other than blue gray.
Etching: Consumers are drawn to darker colors of granite, particularly the wide assortment of black granites due to the superb etching characteristics offered by the black granites.
Lettering: Fonts are typically Modified Times New Roman; however, the sandblasting is increasing the “skin cut” to knock off the polish and to thinly letter the granite. By using a skin cut, the focus remains more on the stone, typically granite, and less on the sometimes overpowering influence created by deep-carved lettering.
Lithochrome: More and more monument builders are recommending very light, almost unnoticeable, use of lithochrome. Builders are using just enough to highlight lettering without overpowering the beauty of the fabulous granite with colors that detract from the stone itself.
Sub Bases: Increasingly, customers like the use of sub bases in the monuments they design.
Memorialization: A VERY HOT area in which we have lead the way nationally is showing folks that every monument can become a memorial without spending a fortune in the process. A monument is not a memorial until it tells the story of the life lived by the deceased loved one.
Retrofitting or Revitalization of Old Graves: Retrofitting of graves with porcelain photographs and memorial plaques is a new trend that we are observing.
These are some of the trends that we have been observing in the memorial industry. All of these trends show an increasing effort by the families and friends of deceased loved ones to memorialize their life and passing
