It should come as no surprise to anyone to learn that not all porcelain photographs are the same. Whether raised, flat, oval, circular, square, black and white or color, we provide our clients with a lot of options.
The same options are available for quality. There is a wide variation of color quality and manufacturing processes. We prefer the oval design, but aside from the type of design, the quality factor is important.
Frequently, I ask my clients to hold porcelain photographs from different manufacturers in each hand and to then describe the color, and the weight. The difference is spectacular. (As a side note, the porcelain photos are of a picture of my beloved friend, Emiko “Amy” Takeuchi, who suffers from dementia, and for whom I have been her caregiver since 1998.)
On the companion photos with this article, I have two pictures in a square and circular format to the left, and a larger oval photograph on the right. Even with the deficiencies of scanning and online printing, it is clear that the larger oval photograph has more vibrant colors that seem to bounce out at you. In person, the difference is quite amazing.
The square and circular shapes shown in the photograph have a ceramic backing. Metal is what I use for myself, and what I recommend regardless of the shape or size that is used, because I prefer the solid, reassuring strength of porcelain with metal backing.
We encourage our clients to not purchase covers for the porcelain photos. I prefer to see a picture when I view the front of a memorial, and not a plate that I must lift. As our porcelains are guaranteed to not fade, the metal cover is unnecessary. If our products should ever fade, return them to us for our free replacement, no questions asked policy.
When ordering porcelain photographs, the thinner the better. We recommend that porcelain photographs should be thin, as it requires less time to flush mount porcelain photographs and less work to sandblast a small area, than it does to carve a deep area for the bulky portraits. It is especially true for a surface mount that the profile be small and inconspicuous.
Porcelain photos look better when flush-mounted. Also, there is the added attractiveness and security of a portrait that is not raised above the surface of the face of the tablet.
The 5” x 7” is the most popular size porcelain for upright tablets. Lesser measurement is fine for the bronze markers, and for smaller sized monuments. Minor sizes are less expensive as are black and white porcelain pictures. Portraits are being used for pet memorials, too.
We can even insert a porcelain photograph flush with the surface of a rock memorial or donor appreciation monument.
For long-term success in any business, client satisfaction is important, and we value our clients. There is no benefit in selling the inferior product unless it is made clear to the client that we are willing to sell the inferior product for less money, without our recommendation, and without a guarantee. We will stand behind any product that is guaranteed. The Golden Rule is an important axiom for doing business: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” We do more than preach it- we live it!
