The Memorialist: Mausoleum Dimensions: Preplanning Memorial Site Space & Important Sources Of Information For Mausoleum Purchasing

Author: Burton Fletcher
Publication Date: 2006-01

We are often asked about the amount of cemetery space required for a small mausoleum. The sizes of cemetery plots vary widely, and the expertise of professional memorialists is essential to proper purchasing and memorialization.

Believing in respecting the time of others, with the request for the same, we provide the following sample dimensions as a general guideline for typical monument footpaths:

Foundation Widths Are Usually Longer And Wider

The width of the foundation is often longer and wider than these dimensions, so give yourself an additional foot in length and a foot for width if you desire to have six inches of foundation extending beyond the footprint of the mausoleum itself.

You can never go wrong with a strong foundation, and the extra width serves to provide additional support, but also protects your investment against damage by lawn mowers and weed eaters.

Mausoleum Size Details
Single Horizontal 4 feet 8 inches wide x 8 feet 4 ½ inches deep x 3 feet 2 inches high
Double Mausoleum, Side By Side 7 feet 6 inches wide x 8 feet 9 inches deep x 3 feet 2 inches high
Double Crypt Mausoleum Upright (Vertical) 4 feet 8 inches wide x 8 feet 4 ½ inches deep x 5 feet 6 inches high This is my favorite, due to the many additional options that are available.
Three Crypt Side By Side (Horizontal) 11 feet 2 inches wide x 8 feet 3 inches deep x 3 feet 2 inches high
Four Crypt Mausoleum: 2 Crypts Over 2 Crypts 7 feet 6 inches wide x 8 feet 9 inches deep x 5 feet 6 inches high.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and with that logic firmly in mind, we have created a wonderful website that both entertains and educates our clients. We believe our website is the most useful website for memorialization in the United States.

We recommend that you view our mausoleums at http://www.valdostamemorials.com/mausoleums.asp. We also have a selection at http://www.valdostamemorials.com/monuments/mcneil/mausoleums/mcneil_mausoleum.asp.

We have over 160 articles on our website, with new articles added frequently, so please enjoy our articles and thousands of photos and narrow your requests so you can inform us of the style, color of granite, desired carving or engraving, and the location of installation, so we can best serve you in an efficient manner.

Please inform us of all details, including names, dates of birth and death, carving or engraving details, color of granite, cemetery name and address, and your name, address, and phone number. Also, we need to know whether the cemetery location is flat and easy to access, and how close we can approach the gravesite with a crane.

We look forward to serving you.
