The Memorialist: What Is Your Favorite Color of Stone? Mine Is Beautiful Island Red From China

wpe2A.jpg (11855 bytes)What is my favorite color of granite? I suppose it would be a cop out to say "Shanxi Black," the premium black granite from China, since that is what I used to produce my own memorial, using an all polished finish. No, while that is a wonderful color that is not my favorite color.

My favorite color of stone is Island Red, a striking light red granite from China. To date, I have not produced any memorial in the stone, but it is on my list of granites to use soon, and I know I will. Everyone has to have a favorite, and that is mine.

I would like to use the Island Red, either by itself, or in combination with Shanxi Black or other colors, perhaps even gray granite, using a steeled finish for the gray granite. Mixing and matching granites between the tablet, sub base, and base is one of numerous areas where our company breaks from the mold for folks who want something unusual to memorialize either themselves, or their loved ones. At a minimum, Island Red would make an excellent accent color due to the combination of light red as the dominant color, with shades of black and white hues interspersed gently and gracefully throughout the background. Black, gray, or white granite would coordinate beautifully with a brightly polished Island Red.

Even when I produced my memorial, I thought of using a combination of colors. However, my work load was intense, and I was pressured to make a final decision a bit faster than I would have liked. Heirloom memorials take time to produce, even for professionals, and there are many factors to consider in achieving harmony for the memorial.

My advice to you is to have fun as part of your own preneed planning. Life is short, so live your life, take reasonable risks, and enjoy the process; even when planning a memorial for yourself -- especially when planning a memorial for yourself! After all, having fun is a good thing, and, for most of us, you only die once!
