The Memorialist: The Dehornele Mausoleum: Beauty Comes With A Price

Author: Burton Fletcher
Publication Date: 2006-01

‘What is it going to cost for the Dehornele Mausoleum’ (or any other mausoleum or large memorial project)? This is a common question we hear from clients. What do you think is a fair price, considering the beauty of this memorial and the high quality product we are building for your family?

Occasionally, clients seem to be in disbelief when I am unable to rattle off an exact price on the spur of the moment. The price depends on many variables, even for the same design. Granite colors, location of delivery, and installation challenges are all relevant to the price. Candidly, even with a ballpark estimate, we are sometimes surprised to learn that we are in error.

Foundation requirements will vary depending on the environmental conditions and the required depth of concrete foundation. A foundation with some depth with rebar would be required for this design.

Take the mausoleum we show in the attached photograph. The price for this double-crypt horizontal mausoleum in Rockville granite will typically range from $175,000 to $225,000, though it would not surprise me if many of our competitors did not justifiably quote a higher price. High quality is going to cost money, and there is no way around that. However, we provide memorials in a wide variety of price ranges from a few hundred to millions of dollars.

Typically, we would include all design fees, carving, lettering, soil borings, engineering, freight, and setting in this price. Landscaping, maintenance, and perpetual care would not be included in this quote. In fact, landscaping, sidewalks, and other cemetery licenses, fees, and requirements are not included unless agreed upon with the monument builder. The foundation, permits, and sales taxes may or may not be included in the price.

Direct access to the site is needed. If installation costs are included, we have estimated all installation costs, which are easily accessible, including crane costs and construction equipment for a relatively flat site.

I hope this article will be educational and will give your family an idea of the costs for building an heirloom quality memorial made from fine granite.
