We were contacted by a labor union in California expressing a desire to honor one of their own, Lorinza Laster, who has dedicated his life to serving union members.
We designed a bronze plaque that would be embedded into a concrete walkway and will serve as a living memorial to the life and esteemed service of Lorinza Laster. A pat on the back is great and too seldom given for a job well done. This plaque will serve as a daily reminder of heroic dedication and to all of the glory of serving others above self.
We too honor Mr. Laster, and we thank his organization for giving us the opportunity to participate in his celebration.
Woodrow Wilson (1856–1924), U.S. Democratic politician and President, stated in a speech on February 27, 1916, in Washington, D.C., “There is no question what the roll of honor in America is. The roll of honor consists of the names of men who have squared their conduct by ideals of duty.”
“With all their faults, trade-unions have done more for humanity than any other organization of men that ever existed. They have done more for decency, for honesty, for education, for the betterment of the race, for the developing of character in man, than any other association of men.” 2
