While
reviewing one of our many design books, I read the quote, Life Is A Journey To Be
Remembered. Our lives are important, not only to us,
(but to
others). Yes, that is what the monument builder, and especially the memorialist
does. We strive to be of comfort to our clients through the services that we provide
during both preneed and time of need.
We create memorials that appreciate life, and we create memorials that are both
meaningful, but also commemorative and preserving of memories. Those are beautiful
thoughts worth thinking about: commemoration of life and preservation of
memories. As someone once said, life is a journey, and it is a journey to be
remembered.
I enjoy photography as a hobby. When I look back at photographs I have taken, my memories
are refreshed and more vivid. This is part of the purpose of an heirloom memorial.
The memorialist uses symbols and words to tell our clients story and to preserve
memories for generations to come. Those memories may relate to our families, our work, our
passions, our achievements, or our faith, and whether our memorial is simple or an
heirloom memorial, we preserve memories for generations to come.
In previous generations, symbols carried more meaning than they do today. Unfortunately,
just as language changes, symbols lose their meaning, except to scholars, historians, or
genealogists, or those trained in memorial construction. Today, words are the medium of
preference, as there will be less confusion for future generations if words are carefully
crafted. That is part of the reason that our memorial company employs multiple editors to
assure our clients that the words chosen will be precise, clear, necessarily brief, and a
lasting testament for the ages.
Todays monument builders and memorialists should be experts in the symbolism that
will help our clients tell their story, because every life has a story worth telling.
