wpe2F.jpg (10334 bytes)I like to be creative, and that is one of my talents that drew me to the monument industry. Sure, I could do other work, but I have a passion for this field. Life is too short to not follow your passion. One of my favorite new designs, of which I am very passionate about, is shown with this article.

Monument Characteristics

This monument was produced by a very creative designer, and it has a carving that carries great symbolism. The top of the monument has curved or wavy lines as a flag might be blown by an intense wind.

The use of lithochrome to color the flag is done in a professional manner. Often, lithochrome ruins beautiful monuments; however, I like it here.

Unique cuts include concave cuts and rounds on the sides of the tablet, symbolizing how a flag might look if blown by a strong wind.

The front of the tablet has a panel in black granite that gives a nice look. The use of a different color for the panel gives a framed look. The panel has the same black granite as the sub base.

A Very Unique Sub Base or 2nd Base

The unique size and shape of the sub base, or second base, is a fabulous idea and one that I intend to recommend to my clients. Monuments do not need to be expensive to be beautiful.

The sub base appears to be no more than 3 inches high, with dimensions that are approximately 4 inches longer and 4 inches wider than the tablet, allowing 2 inches beyond the face, back, and each side of the tablet for carving.

A convex cut, matching the outer surface of a circle, is centered on the outer side of the sub base. A check above and below the convex cut allows the creation of a bead. A bead, also called a round raised line, is a raised molding that is under used with low- and moderate-end memorials.

A Tapered Base

The base is tapered both on the ends and also on the front and back. This fits exceptionally well with the sub base and base. The top of the base tapers starts in line with the outer circumference of the sub base and tapers downward. The unique taper seems to highlight the lines of the sub base.

All of these features combine to make this a very interesting monument and one of my favorite new designs. I am a patriotic fellow, and I love the symbolism of this monument. Semper Fi.
